SEE & DO

PARMA TO SEE - THINGS TO DO

Parma: small capital of art, history and gastronomy

Old Town

Wondering what to see in Parma means understanding the charm of a city that has a lot to offer. Just think of Piazza del Duomo with some of the most important masterpieces of Romanesque architecture in Italy; the Palazzo della Pilotta, home to important museums, libraries and the 17th century Teatro Farnese; the Teatro Regio temple of lyric music; for the little ones and not only, the Castle of the Puppets; and so much more.

To see in the province

Do not miss a visit to the castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, 24 manors and fortresses built in various periods from the Middle Ages to the “Belle Epoque” (the Reggia di Colorno, the Torrechiara Castle, the Rocca di Fontanellato and many others). Recently opened, the Labirinto del Masone near Fontanellato is a cultural park with art collections and cultural and artistic events. The labyrinth (the largest in the world) is made of different species of bamboo.

The naturalist's notebook

For those who love nature or enjoy relaxing walks in the city, the Parco Ducale, the Parco della Citadella and the Orto Botanico (botanical garden) are unmissable destinations. A few kilometers away, the refined atmospheres the Carega forest is found. A protected area with guided itineraries that allow you to discover ancient trees, wide clearings, placid lakes and precious historic buildings.

"Parma to eat"

Parma, one of the most delicious cities in the world. It has been proclaimed by UNESCO as “Creative City of Gastronomy”. This is thanks to its gastronomic excellences: Parmigiano-Reggiano, Parma ham, Zibello culatello, Felino salami, Borgotaro mushrooms, just to name some of the treasures of the territory.

Parma: fairs and markets festivals

Just a few examples: the Porcino fair in Albareto and in November, the land of Verdi and Guareschi, celebrates "november porc .... we hope there is fog”, the name says it all!! In May, in the secular park of Villa Malanchini takes place "De Gustibus" garden of taste, an exhibition event and a market place of Italian Food Excellence. And on the same dates also takes place "Cibus", an important international food fair.

All-by-bike through Parma lowlands

Parma, a land to pedal (also accompanied by environmental guides). Each excursion will also be an excellent opportunity to make stops in taverns and restaurants, in the homeland of the culatello, buttery tortelli d’erbetta, spalla cotta.

The hills of Parma

Embrace Parma, the treasures trove of culture, even culinary: the best ham is born here, where the wind is blowing and the stones preserve stories of princesses and knight.

GUEST REVIEW

I stayed La Luna nel Pozzo together with a couple and their two small kids. We had a fabulous time there while visiting Parma. The house is simply gorgeous surrounded by a waste garden. It’s an antique rural house, which inside looks like a piece of art. All rooms are designed in a different way and it seems like a lot of effort was put in the interior design. The hosts were lovely, very welcoming and generous. They never got tired answering all the questions we had. Highly recommended!
